An ever so slightly soft, lardy pastry with a bit of give on the sides moulded in the traditional Scottish tin shape. It is chockful of stringy braised steak, which thankfully isn’t as chewy as it looks with reasonable depth to it. The peppercorn sauce doesn’t just rescue this pie, it earns it a knighthood for services to flavour. The steak meat is dominant but it is undoubtedly the peppered sauce which resuscitates this effort high into the pie echelons
