The pastry is nicely glazed but the crust lip a touch crumbly. The pie is still scorching 20 minutes later, when I sink my teeth into it, giving off a strong almost uniquely cheesy aroma, enveloping my car while steam fumes out of it like a chemical chimney. It is the most intensely filled pie I’ve had in some time – absolutely out of this world. Big chunks of prime beef, packed with potato and plenty of moist juices flowing around. Whereas some meat and potato fillings turn to mush – and I’ve not got a problem with that, it is a cheap feed owned by the working classes never to be purloined by haughty aristocrats – where was I…..this does buck the trend as there is half a cow in here but the amount of juices flowing around and succulent potato chunks keep it nice and liquid throughout. It is a really stunning pie.
