  3. The Windmill Steak and Kidney pie

It takes a while to arrive but is well worth it as two pastry coated steak and kidney flavoured door stops are placed on our table with us half expecting them to go crashing through the table, the floor and the ceiling below followed by a shriek of pain from a gentleman below who’s innocuous post-work pint ends in tragedy as he is knocked out cold by a shot putt filled with meat.
We receive nice cold Peroni’s delivered to our table and an extra jug of gravy after a bit of gentle prompting. The pie has a rich, thick yet delicate golden crust containing wholesome chunks of steak and even my nemesis kidney was sufficiently well cooked so as not to cause offence. The pie is so round and heavy it would fit nicely under Geoff Capes chin. A three times award winner and completely vindicated for once. A real find this place.
